GUIDELINES FOR THOSE DISTRIBUTING
COMMUNION TO SHUT- IN'S

After you have greeted one another and are seated either at the kitchen table or in the living room, set out the bread and wine and say:

"Peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ. When our congregation gathered for the celebration of Holy Communion this morning, we heard again the story of God's mighty acts and of the love He has shown us in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We were given assurance of our Lord's presence through the gift of the Holy Spirit. Now we bring to you this same bread of life and this same cup of blessing, that you may be strengthened through your participation in the body of Christ. Hear the words of Jesus, 'I am the bread of live; whoever comes to me shall not hunger and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."'

Then you shall invite the communicant(s) to join you in praying the Lord's Prayer.

Then you shall say:

"As oft as we eat of this bread and drink of this cup, we proclaim the Lord's death until he comes."

Then say:

"This is the body of Christ, given for you" and hand the communicant the bread.

Then say:

'This is the blood of Christ, shed for your sins," and give the communicant the wine.

If the worship service is still on the radio or TV you may want to listen and finish the service with the communicant.

Or, you may choose to close the service this way. After you have given the communicant the bread and wine say, "Let us Pray." Then read the following prayer and Benediction:

"Almighty God, you provide the true bread from heaven, your son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Grant that we who have received the Sacrament of his body and blood may abide in him and he in us, that we may be filled with the power of his endless life. Amen.

The Lord bless us, defend us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen."

You may then take your leave. The glasses are disposable, but please bring the wine container back to the church. Thank you.
