A puzzle shaped like a cross was cut out from cardboard into 10 pieces. On each piece of the puzzle one word was painted.

Following are the words and verses that match:

Faith - Romans 5:1

Guidance - Proverbs 3:5

Peace - Romans 1:7

Strength - Isaiah 40:31

Grace - Ephesians 2:8

Forgiven - Ephesians 1: 6&7

Hope - Romans 15:13

Healing - Jeremiah 30:17

Eternal Life - John 3:16

Love - Romans 8:39

These verses acted as the overall message in our worship service. This service was used at a lock-in. 10 youth in the congregation had one of the pieces. The service began with an opening prayer that introduced the theme: Gift's from God through Jesus' Sacrifice. Throughout the service each piece was brought forward one by one. Up front we had a hammer, nails and a piece of wood. We hammered the piece onto the board as the corresponding verse was being read. By the end of the service the cross puzzle was complete. This idea is very flexible and could be used with any number of verses and words. The youth really got into the service. The sound of the hammering was especially effective for the youth. At the end we said a closing prayer thanking God for each of these gifts. During the prayer those who brought up each puzzle piece said that word out loud. It was a great way to keep the kids involved in the service! It was a big hit with both JR and SR High.
