Leaves Against An Autumn Sky

Leaves against an autumn sky
Gently falling from up high.
Yellow, red, green, and brown;
Coming slowly, gently down.

God created autumn skies;
Bees and birds and all that flies.
Awesome is the bright display
In the dazzling light of day.

Mulberry leaves in the fall

Mulberry Leaves in Fall

            The White Mulberry tree bears fruit in summer that attracts many birds.  In fall the leaves turn  a bright yellow.  Sometimes, if the weather is very cold before the leaves become yellow, all fall off very quickly while still green.
In some years even the yellow leaves may all fall at one time in the space of about an hour.
            For centuries the White Mulberry has served as the main source of food for silk worms.
            What is the branching pattern of this tree?  Look for evidence of animals using the tree.  Are there any holes in the bark or trunk?  What might have lived in the tree?

Dear Lord,
            Help us to appreciate the shapes of trees and the beauty of leaves and bark.  In your name we pray, Amen.
