Letter sent with Quilt

The painted quilt blocks were decorated by Lutheran youth (and a few of their adult chaperones) from the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin - Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which is composed of congregations in 22 counties in the northwestern part of the state. The young people were told to turn their imaginations loose; they were invited to share their faith or, if they preferred, to simply help prepare pieces for quilts, with the understanding that these blocks would be assembled into quilts and given to someone who needed them. Supplies for the quilt blocks were purchased from registration proceeds, so these quilts are, very literally, gifts from the youth of this Synod.

Not all of the blocks are painted; those that are not are made from leftover fabrics from other projects - or, sometimes, from other quilts. The youth ask that each quilt be given to someone who needs to be warm, preferably a young person; they hope that, as this quilt is wrapped around its new owner, he or she will experience the comfort of being wrapped in God's love.

If you would like to let the youth know a bit about the quilt's new owner, you may send a note addressed to the "Synod Youth Board, Northwest Synod of Wisconsin - ELCA, P. O. Box 730, Rice Lake, WI 54868." Your comments will be shared with the youth as they prepare to paint the next series of blocks so that still others may be warmed and comforted.
