Skit on Stewardship

(Need: 4 women&emdash;a large amount of play money&emdash;a large can marked 'Donate to the New School Fund'&emdash;a table and 4 chairs.)

[Setting: the women are seated around the table, 3 of them are excited, the other sits quietly shaking her head occasionally.]

Woman 1: (empties can on table) "Look at all the money we have for the New School Fund! I'm sure there is enough money here to start the building and buy some furnishings too!"

Woman 2: "Well, I'm going to take some money out to fix that window in that old building downtown, so the birds can't fly in. Someone may want to use it, and we can't have it full of bird nests."

Woman 1: "Sure, that's a good idea."

Woman 3: "Well, I'm going to take out some money (counts and lays aside a pile of bills) for fixing the front steps on our church, they are getting pretty bad, I'm afraid someone might get hurt."

Woman 1: "Sure, go ahead, there's lots of it here."

Woman 2: "And I'm going to give this (holds up a bundle of money) to the mayor so he can buy a new desk for City Hall. That old one looks so bad. I'm ashamed when out-of-towners stop by and see that old beat-up desk."

Woman 3: "Alright, I think I'll take some out to help feed the dogs in the city pound. They could maybe buy some special treats for the. They look so sad and rejected."

Woman 1: "(takes out some money) "I'm going to see the Joe Smith gets a few dollars so he can get a new muffler for his truck. That thing is so noisy; it is so loud when he drives through my neighborhood. It really needs to be fixed."

Woman 4: "So, how much money do you have left for the school?"

Woman 1: (counts money) "Oh, my goodness! All we have left is $63.00&emdash;that won't do much.

Woman 4: "Don't you think the people who put money into the collection can are going to be disappointed. They gave that money to the New School Fund in good faith that it was going to be used for ONLY that. In addition, we were chosen as a board to see that the money was collected, counted and sent to the proper place. Can you justify our taking of that money for other causes, as worthy as they seem?"

Woman 1: "Well, I guess you've got something there. Maybe we'd better put all the money back in to the New School Fund."

Woman 2: "Maybe we could put out more cans or start some other collection method for these other causes if we feel they deserve our attention. Then we can let the people decide if they want their money used for those purposes."

All: "That's a GOOD idea!"
