INSTALLATION SERVICE &emdash; CHEQUAMEGON CONFERENCE

COMMENDATION OF OUTGOING OFFICERS

  • Leader: Sisters in Christ, in Holy Baptism our Lord Jesus Christ received you as members of his body, the church, and called you to lives of service, as partners in the priesthood we all share in Christ Jesus. As you complete your terms of ministry as leaders of Women of the ELCA, we acknowledge and honor your good work among us.
  • The leader may name each outgoing leader, commenting briefly on her particular responsibilities and thanking each one individually, and ask them to come forward.
  • Leader: You have served faithfully, using the gifts and talents given to you for the service of God's people. On behalf of all who have been blessed by your ministry, please accept our gratitude and appreciation.

  • (A gift may be presented at this time.)
  • Leader: Believing that God continues to call us and lead us in ministry, we commend you now to the new tasks that God has for you. In doing so, we pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you and sustain you in all that you do.

  • The outgoing leaders turn to face the congregation. The congregation stands.
  • All: We stand in recognition and appreciation of your gifts to God and to Women of the ELCA. We thank God for all that you have done and will continue to do in the name of Jesus.

  • The congregation is seated. The outgoing leaders may return to their seats.

(Six candles placed in holders and one larger candle may be arranged on the altar and lit.)

  • As the leader reads the names and position of the newly elected and continuing officers, she places in their hands a lit candle.

Leader: "Now there are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service in the church, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are different ways God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work through all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church."

  • 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (New Living Translation)
  • Leader: Sisters in Christ, you have been elected to positions of leadership in Women of the ELCA. We rejoice in the gifts God has given you and in your willingness to offer them for this service. As you have been called and empowered to a life of discipleship in Christ, do you promise to be faithful in prayer and the study of God's Word? Will you continue to seek to grow in faith, and listen to God in prayer and to seek the support of your sisters as you accept and engage in a ministry of leadership?

  • Officers: With God's help, I will.
  • Leader: Will you earnestly seek to affirm the gifts of others, to share the responsibilities of your office in partnership with your sisters, and to encourage others to offer their talents and skills in the ministry of the gospel?

  • Officers: With God's help, I will.
  • Leader: Will you seek to lead this community in ministry and action, extending God's loving promise of hope to those beyond this place?

  • Officers: With God's help, I will.
  • Leader: Will you seek to promote healing and wholeness within the Church, the society, and the whole world?

  • Officers: With God's help, I will.
  • Leader: Will you accept the specific responsibilities of the office to which you are elected and seek to serve the office faithfully?

  • Officers: With God's help, I will.
  • Leader: Through Holy Baptism, you were gathered in to the family of God and called to minister to others, and through your election, you have been chosen to serve as an officer of the Chequamegon Conference of the Women of the ELCA. May God work through you to share hope and healing with the world in which you live. God is faithful and will graciously enable you to fulfill your task.

  • The leader addresses the congregation
  • Leader: Together with these elected leaders, you are called through Holy Baptism to a life of discipleship. Will you receive these leaders and work with them, pray for them, and support them for the sake of the gospel?

All: With God's help we will. As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing an wholeness in the church, the society and the world. Amen.

  • Leader: May the blessings of God go with us, as we engage in active ministry in the church and in the world, to bring wholeness and healing in Christ's name.

May the blessings of God go with us, as we work interdependently with one another and in partnership with women from around the world.

May the blessings of God go with us, as we proclaim to all people the inclusive and all-embracing love and grace of God, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • All: Amen.
