CHRISTUS REX LUTHERAN CAMPUS CENTER at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks centers its life together around a ministry of Word and Sacrament. The community gathers for worship each Sunday morning and evening when school is in session. Holy Communion always is celebrated at these Sunday services. We welcome all God's people to celebrate with us the Word proclaimed and Sacraments shared as we live out our baptism within the community of UND. In addition, mid-week Lenten worship is scheduled and an Advent festival is held the second or third Sunday of December. Worship at Christus Rex is markedly liturgical and undeniably Lutheran but the gathered community represents a variety of religious traditions. The baptismal emphasis is evidenced by the central focus given to the baptismal font. New fonts are crafted to give support and witness to the nature of the liturgical season. Liturgies change from season to season and there is strong student leadership in worship. The Christus Rex worshiping community is markedly hospitable and engages in the worship with gusto. Music, both vocal and instrumental, is integral in enhancing the worship. Preaching is relevant for the gathered community and sermons typically last 7-10 minutes. The worship space is attentive to color and design and uses candles, plants, art and fabric to create an expression of the current liturgical season. The flexibility of design allows the seating to shift from season to season and creates a heightened awareness of new seasons and festivals. We take seriously our call to Christian community and the implementation of the gifts of all God's people and make every effort to reflect this in the worship life of Christus Rex. Undergirded by a commitment to biblical hospitality, the community is well-rooted in Word and Sacrament. |
