CALLER GUIDELINES FOR WORSHIP ASSISTANTS

1. I am [ give your name] calling from Gethsemane.

2. The reason I am calling is to ask for your help with the worship services on [ date ].

3. We are giving all members of Gethsemane as families and individuals to take their turn in helping with the many duties that accompany a worship service. You will be working with other families and individuals as well. They will receive a letter explaining all duties.

If they ask what those duties are here is a listing for your reference.

  • Attending to the Welcome Center
  • Taking attendance
  • Greeting and ushering
  • Circulating Worship Information Sheets
  • Lighting of candles
  • Taking offering/Placing in deposit bags
  • Helping with Communion/Baptisms
  • Being available for emergency needs
  • Reading of Lessons
  • Turning on sound system/tape in
Let them know that their children may help in many of these duties as well.

4. I am calling for the month of ___________.
What [Sunday] would work best for you?
Which [ service] ?
If you can't for this month, what month and Sunday would work better for you?

5. If they absolutely refuse, thank them and let them know that we want to give everyone the same opportunity.

Miscellaneous comments and thoughts:

  • If you finish in one alphabetical category choose another alphabetical category at random that has not been already used.
  • Make all your notes next to their name in the directory ie. Dates, yes/no etc.
  • Turn in your results to the office as soon as possible on a sheet of paper
  • Pass the directory on to the next person who does calling
  • Calling shall normally be made the 2nd week of each month for the next month.
  • Letters shall normally be sent out the 3rd week of each month for the next month.
