We use this as an additional way to help provide visitors with some basic information for worship. This is attached as the first page on our worship folder. We have created 4 folders, containing our "regular" LBW communion and non-communion Settings 1 and 2 (with the options deleted) and hand out the appropriate folder for the service. Since the folder is 8.5 x 11, that's the format for this welcome piece. It can also be done as a "bookmark" and inserted in the LBW's in the pew racks.

For your information…

Children are not only welcome, but valued as worship participants. We encourage their presence with us in worship. If you do need to use it, our nursery for infants and small children is located in the basement. As you exit the worship space, turn right and follow the stairs down. The nursery is straight ahead at the foot of the stairs.

Restrooms are located at the north end of the hall across from the elevator and in the basement across from the kitchen.

If you are accustomed to the liturgical style of worship, great! If not, don't worry. Follow along as best you can and take your cue from others. Like a good pair of jeans, liturgical worship may seem a little "stiff" at first. But the more you wear it, the more comfortable it becomes.

If you are visiting, please be sure to fill out the card that you'll find in the hymnbook holder in front of you, and then drop that card in the offering plate when it comes by during the service.

About Holy Communion

We generally celebrate Holy Communion at one or more of our worship services each week except for the second Sunday of the month. We encourage all visitors who commune with their home congregation to come to the table.

Children who commune with their home congregation are welcome here as well. They should indicate their desire to receive the bread by holding out their hands, palms up. Children who do not commune are welcome to come and receive a blessing. They may so indicate by keeping their hands folded when the pastor stands before them.

At the time of communion, an usher will direct you. Come forward, pick up an empty cup from the tray and proceed to the altar rail. Stand or kneel at the rail, as you prefer. You will receive a piece of bread, and a server will pour the wine into your glass.

Grape juice is available in place of wine if you prefer. Indicate your preference for grape juice by holding your hand over your cup when the wine is offered. You are welcome to remain at the altar rail in prayer for as long as you wish. Others will fill in around you.

Once finished, depart from the altar rail through the doors on the side to which you are seated. As you pass through the anteroom, deposit your empty glass in the tray provided.

Sometimes we serve by "intinction." At those times, you would receive the bread and then dip it in the chalice of wine (metal chalice) or grape juice (ceramic chalice), before eating.
