Nicene
Creed Drama
- Narrator 1: Hi
Kids. Today we are going to tell you about the Nicene
Creed.
- First, what does
the word "creed" mean?
Heckler 1: 1 know, I
know, it's when you learn to kawrite and karead.
- Narrator 1: Not
exactly. A creed is a statement of our main beliefs.
- It is like our
guidelines.
Narrator 2: We have
two creeds, the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed.
Heckler 1: What? Did
you say the pothole creed?
- Narrator 2: No,
the Apostles' Creed. The Apostles' Creed was not produced
by
- the Apostles. It
is called that because it contains a summary of their
- teachings. It was
named in honor of them. This creed is used most
- Sundays and
especially for baptisms.
Narrator 3: The other
creed is called the Nicene Creed.
- Heckler 1: Did
you say ice cream? Now we're talking, I was getting
hungry
- listening to all
this talk. Two scoops please.
-
- Narrator 3: Not
"ice cream". I said "Nicene" Creed. This creed was
written by
- the early church
and adopted by the church council at Nicaeda in 325
A.D.
Heckler 1: That's a
long time ago, did Jesus write it?
- Narrator 3: No,
Jesus died sometime between 28 A.D. and 33 A.D. This
creed was
- written to answer
critics who criticized certain beliefs of the church.
- Its usually used
for communion Sundays or special occasions.
-
- Narrator 4: The
Nicene Creed has three parts. The first part deals with
our
- belief in God the
Father. Listen carefully to what we believe.
[GROUP I READS
THE FIRST SECTION OF THE CREED]
Heckler 1: I listened really carefully and I didn't hear
anything about ice cream.
- Narrator 5: We
told you already, its not ice cream, its Nicene. The
second
- part deals with
our belief in Jesus Christ. Listen to the summary of his
life.
[GROUP 2 READS
THE SECOND SECTION OF THE CREED]
Heckler 1: I'll bet Jesus got to eat ice cream.
- Narrator 6: The
third part deals with our belief in the Holy Spirit and
is
- the
conclusion.
[GROUP 3 READS
THE THIRD SECTION OF THE CREED]
- Heckler 1: If
your story doesn't have anything to do with ice cream,
you
- should give it a
different name.
