To all Baptismal sponsors of three-year-olds at Trinity Lutheran Church, We are writing to invite you to a very special occasion. Your godchild is beginning Sunday school this coming January. When your godchild was baptized, you made some promises before God. One of these promises was that you would "provide for his/her instruction in the Christian faith" and another was "that as he/she grows in years you would place in his/her hands the Holy Scripture." In an effort to help you fulfill the vow you made before God that day, we have re-thought and restructured the way in which we place the scriptures into the hands of our younger brothers and sisters in Christ. We have enclosed a copy of the letter now given to each sponsor at the baptisms at Trinity. Please take time to read it when you are done with this note. Basically, it states that: 1. The Pastors will be giving a toddler's Bible at baptism; This basically reflects the partnership we share in raising up children in the faith, through presenting them with a version of the scriptures which they can understand. We do expect certain things of baptismal sponsors at Trinity, such as praying for your godchild, encouraging him/her in the faith, and encouraging the parents to set godly examples for their child(ren). We are asking you to do the following: 1. Come to worship at Trinity on Sunday, January 21st, to place The Beginner's Bible into the hands of your godchild. (Find out if your godchild will be attending the 8:45 or the 10:30 service so that you can be at the same worship service!) May God continue to bless you as you seek to faithfully fulfill the promises you made on the day of your godchild's baptism. |
