WORSHIP NOTES: Everyone brought little bags with seeds for eaach of the crops they will plant. Before the offering I had them bring them up and put them on a table in front of the altar. Then we did the blessing and they left them on the table until after worship when the idea was they would take them home and mix them with the other seed to be planted. We had sunflowers, barley, wheat, canola, and flax.

BLESSING OF THE SEEDS

A reading from the Word of God: (Genesis 1:11-12 & 2 Corin. 9:8-11)

P. Let us praise God, who plants the seeds and reaps the harvest.

C. BLESSED BE GOD FOREVER!

P. Today we seek God's blessing on these seeds and the crops they will produce. Christ reminds us that, unless the seed is planted in the earth and dies, it will not yield fruit. As these seeds grow and are card for, may they be signs of the new life that comes from God.

PRAYER

P. The Lord of the planting and the harvest sustains us &endash; let us call upon our God.
C. HEAR US, O LORD.
P. From despair in times of over-abundant moisture,
C. DELIVER US, O LORD.
P. From wastefulness in times of plenty,
C. DELIVER US, O LORD.
P. From neglect of those in need,
C. DELIVER US, O LORD.
P. From blindness to your presence in our work,
C. DELIVER US, O LORD.

BLESSING

P. Eternal God, maker of heaven and earth, we bless you and give you glory. You placed these gifts of creation in our hands and called us to till the earth and make it fruitful.

C. BLESS THE SOIL IN THE FIELDS WE WILL WORK AND MAKE IT READY TO RECEIVE AND NURTURE THE SEEDS ENTRUSTED TO IT.

P. Bless the seeds and help them to germinate and provide a bountiful harvest, so that they may provide food and work for many.

C. GRANT EACH OF US THE ASSURANCE OF YOUR LOVING CONCERN AND PRESENCE IN THE WORK THAT YOU CALL US TO DO ON THE LAND. BESTOW UPON US ALL A PATIENT AND TRUSING SPIRIT.

P. Protect the land from wind and hail and grant us favorable weather throughout this growing season.

C. MAKE US TRULY GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF YOUR GOOD GIFTS. NOURISH US, CARE FOR US AND DIRECT US, IN THIS SEASON AND IN ALL THE SEASONS AHEAD…AMEN
