Epiphany:

Definition:

An epiphany is to manifest or show (it suddenly makes sense because I had an epiphany!)

History:

The Christian festival originally (in the eastern tradition) celebrated the baptism of Jesus (because Jesus showed himself to be Savior of the world). In western tradition, the arrival of the magi proved the manifestation of Christ to all nations, even to non-Jews .

Symbolism:

Gift giving- the magi's gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Mission- and the extension of God's kingdom (the magi were not Jews; hence the gentiles came to know the Savior.)

Seeing - God behind, above, within, around, and below.

God's reign - is over one world.

Traditions:

Hymns and songs about light and stars.

Scriptures John 1 and Matthew 2

Blessings of the home - Have you ever thought about having a home blessing? Whether you have lived there forever or recently moved in, consider inviting friends and family to gather at the beginning of the year to welcome Christ into your home.
