Ole & Lena on Stewardship

Ole: Say Lena – did we get a letter from church? I was talking to Lars and he said they got their important letter from the “Stew” group, or was it the “Ship” group from church yesterday. He was quite excited about it – did we get that der letter Lena?

Lena: Ole – Dat letter (yes we got it) dat letter was from the STEWARDSHIP Committee

Ole: Is dat the group that always talking about money & lots of it??

Lena: No Ole – NO, for goodness sake Ole they are the group that’s always talking aobut our ministry and our mission at “Betney”
-Ministry to the youth of our congregation
-Our Mission to Luther Park and its activities
-Ministry to our church members who are ill
-Ministry for poor & hungry & homeless people in our community
-Ministry for the maintenance our building and grounds

Don’t you know that ministry costs money Ole? Pause

Ole, don’t you remember Pastor Enquist, says they both start with “M” ministry –money. They go together, you can’t have one without the other.

Ole: Ya, Ya, Ya, but

Lena: But what Ole?

Ole: But Lena, remember we are on a fixed income. ?? Social Security. Dat and a little bity pension, and snus must have doubled in price the last 6 months and gasoline is $2.79 a gallon.

Lena: But you forgot there is CD at the bank
And oh yes. The inheritance from Aunt Mabel and Uncle Pete – you stuck under the mattress. I checked “The mice haven’t found it yet”

Ole: Ya, ya, Lena but

Lena: But what Ole? The church is a big part of our life, our community. It has to pay its heat bill, light bill and them preachers don’t work for nothing these days and the call committee says they are working on getting the one God’s going to send us. We need to be ready when a preacher comes.

Ole: Ya, Ya, I suppose – money and ministry huh ?? well -
But Lena, you know that Swenson family has been free loaden for years. That Stew Committee needs to talk to them and then that other family that’s so rich – Whats their name -- Oh well, Did they get that letter? Have you heard?
Lena: Everybody got the letter, Ole, everybody!!!
Its beside the point Ole – we got the letter and now we got to decide what to do about it – right?

Ole: Well, maybe right! Maybe wrong! Lets put it off a week or so then maybe snus and gas will come down a little

Lena: Ministry can’t wait Ole – If you think about it & pray about it, we got so much more than you think !!

Ole: Bills ya mean?

Lena: No, Ole, God’s gifts – look at what we have – health – home – family – income – friends. The church that cares – cares about all of us and God’s good earth – Ole we are so blessed.

Ole: Ya—Ya—Ya, you know Lean, I could give up snus and ;you give up the knitting and we could raise our pledge by ½ % of 1% of our fixed income, ya?
