Hope For The Gaps “For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person – though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6-8 I attended an in-service at work today, which included a comparison of math test scores. The graphs showed how many students were able to successfully complete specific test items. The numbers were interesting, but the phrase the presenter used to describe the percentages resonated for me in a different way. He called the figures a “gap between possibility and performance”. Wow! In those few words I found a description of my habits in life. Gaps appear everywhere! It seems so obvious that the ways to grow in my faith walk should include studying, discussing, praying, memorizing, and worshipping. That should be a “no brainer”, right? Best intentions include all of those things, but even our very best efforts produce the gap between possibility and performance. Thankfully, we have a God who acknowledged that we all “fall short of the glory of God”, and that we need a bridge to reach the eternal life He has promised. By giving His Son, an act so loving that we cannot begin to comprehend the sacrifice, God assured our salvation. He gives us courage and strength to step into that gap, to work on the opportunities and possibilities to grow in faith and to be His witnesses. Incredible, amazing love – a gift that deserves our best efforts in knowing the giver.
Awesome God, thanks so much for Your love and forgiveness! I know there is no way I can earn or deserve what You have freely given to me. And that is what makes it even more amazing! Inspire me to give my best today for You. Help me to fill in the “gaps” of my life so that I am better able to do those things You created me to do. In Jesus’ name, AMEN. |
