About Those Clichés
by Becky Williams

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.  Amen.”  2 Peter 3:18

We’ve all heard these kinds of statements before: “The more you know, the more you know.”  Or this one: “Practice makes perfect.”  And what about: “Try it; you’ll like it”.  These are common sayings.  But did you ever consider these clichés when pondering your life as a Christian?

Looking at the passage above from 2 Peter encourages me in my faith journey.  The more I study the Word, the more I am able to live out the life God created me to live.  The more I practice what the Word says, the easier it is to live by.  The more I try to follow and believe all that the Bible teaches, the more I like that kind of living.

No, the clichés don’t fit exactly!  The more I know about God, the more I want to know.  I won’t ever know it all!  However, I DO know that the One who DOES know it all is the One who knows and loves me.

No matter how much I try to practice my faith, I’ll never be perfect!  But I do know that as I study the Word and grow in faith, I come to realize that life is so much easier when I allow God to help.

And for that, I can truly say, “Try it; you’ll like it!!!”

Lord God, help me to keep growing in faith.  Teach me more and more about Your love for me in Jesus.  Help me to find ways to share this love and knowledge with others.  Let my words and actions be for Your glory and praise.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
