Sunday of the Passion or Palm Sunday
Read from one or more of the following texts.
Luke 19:28-40
Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29
Isaiah 50:4-9a
Psalm 31:9-16
Philippians 2:5-11
Luke 22:14--23:56 or Luke 23:1-49
Read the account of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on Palm or Passion
Sunday. The crowds waved palm branches as they joined the procession.
How have God's people given praise in the past? In reading both Old
and New Testament passages we see worshipers waving, raising, or
clapping their hands in praise, shouting, speaking, and singing
praises, bowing down, and participating in liturgical
dances.
As we read the account of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem we think about the possible reasons the crowds shouted, "Hosanna". Some believed Jesus was the promised Messiah in the truest sense of the word. Others expected a revolutionary liberator from Roman rule. Others had come from curiosity because Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead or fed the multitudes. Some just went along with the crowd.
Who do you think Jesus is? How will you express your joy this Palm Sunday?
Heavenly Father,
We praise you and thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, as our Savior. Help us to bring true worship and praise. Help us to share our joy with others.
Amen
