Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were giving a banquet for Jesus. Mary gratefully poured costly perfume on Jesus' feet. Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead! They rejoiced in the new life Jesus had given to Lazarus.

The brother and two sisters did not know that Jesus himself would soon die. Jesus knew that through his death he would be able to give new life to the world! Their vision of life and death was small. Jesus' vision was for the whole world and for eternity.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for caring for a lost and dying world. Open our eyes to needs beyond our own small worlds.

In your name we pray,
