A Balanced Spiritual Life
A Lenten Journey at Elim Lutheran in Fargo
A Balanced Spiritual Life was the theme for our Lenten Series during
Lent of 2003. I have read material from Richard Foster for many years.
He has books like
Celebration of Discipline, Prayer, Simplicity, Money, Sex & Power.
During Lent we studied six spiritual traditions from A Spiritual Formation Workbook
by James Bryan Smith with Lynda Graybeal.
The six traditions:
Contemplative: the prayer-filled life
Holiness: the virtue-filled life
Charismatic: the spirit-empowered life
Social Justice: the compassionate life
Evangelical: the word-centered life
Incarnational: the sacramental life
We had an exercise sheet for each of the traditions. These sheets were
handed out each week and people were to be accountable to one other
person in the working
out of these sheets. There was much conversation throughout the week about the
exercises and a lot of excitement. The attendance at our Lenten series was up
over the last several years.
Material regarding these traditions and other materials can be found
through
the Renovare' website. www.renovare.org
Renovare' means "to renew". Renovare' is committed to the renewal of
the Church of Jesus Christ in all her multifaceted expressions.
