Prayers in a Time of National Tragedy

Bless, O Lord, all healthcare providers with knowledge and skills so that you may work your healing powers through them. Let them be sensitive to both the bodily and spiritual needs of all in their care, providing comfort and release from physical suffering while offering love and hope in the name of Jesus Christ.

Almighty God, heavenly Father, guide the nations of the world in this time of turmoil. Lead them in ways of justice and truth, and establish among them that peace which is the fruit of righteousness, that they may become the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dear Heavenly Father, at this time I will close my eyes and pray silently for those who are in need, for those I love, and for the world around me....

Jesus, Good Shepherd, you know each of your followers by name: Help us to recognize your presence in all people that we may support one another in this time of need and treat one another with respect and reverence.

We remember in our prayers all those who are in need of physical assistance and especially those who are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy which has been inflicted on our country and the world.

We pray for President Bush and the congress of the United States. Give them courage wisdom and foresight to provide for the needs of all people and to fulfill our obligations in the community of nations.

We pray for those who are traveling during this time and at any time, and we pray for a safe journey.

Oh God, you desire peace for the people of the earth. Guide the leaders of the earth in paths of justice and mercy.

Thank you God for the community servants who are firefighters, emergency medical technicians and officers of the various law enforcement agencies. They lay their lives on the line on a regular basis for the love of their brothers and sisters &endash; a love given to us through Christ.

Almighty God, heavenly Father, guide the nations of the world in ways of justice and truth, and establish among them that peace which is the fruit of righteousness, that they may become the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may move every human heart, that the barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease, and that with our divisions healed, we might live in justice and peace; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son. Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bond of love; and, through our struggle and confusion, work to accomplish your purposes on earth; that in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Almighty and everlasting God, comfort the sad and give strength to those who suffer. Let the prayers of your children who are in any trouble rise to you. To everyone in distress grant mercy, grant relief, grant refreshment.

Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love; Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, union; Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal live. Amen
