SAYING GOOD-BYE Pastoral Care to Those Whose Congregation is Closing A letter I wrote with pastor Erik giving final details to the congregation. May 16, 1995 Dear Member of Vang Lutheran Church: Time is moving fast and May 28th will soon be upon us. We are sending this letter to make sure all of you are aware of what will take place on that day. We will worship at Vang Church at 2:00 P.M. The service will be a service of Holy Communion with Bishop Rick Foss preaching. There will be a time for you to share your memories of the life of Vang Lutheran Church with the congregation as a whole and, of course, with one another. If you would like something special read but don't want to do it yourself, talk to Sandy. If you have a special hymn request, please call Irene Lee. Our worship service will be followed by a light lunch and as much time as you need to visit. if you have pictures, etc. that you would like to share, there will be a place for them to be displayed at the church. There may be a video team (2 people) from Public Television on hand, as most of you already know. They have promised to be respectful and non-intrusive. We encourage you to be thinking seriously of where you would like to transfer your church membership. We know this is not an easy decision, but it is a positive one that will help the hurting heal as you say good-bye to Vang. We are both available to discuss this with you at any time. There are many fine communities of faith in this area, as you all know, and we count it a privilege to help you find one. As you prepare to make the move into a new congregation, you will want to have on hand the dates of birth, baptism, confirmation and marriage for each member of your family. May 28th will be a day of celebration and thanksgiving to God for 95 years of ministry on the North Dakota prairie. It will also be a day of remembering which will brings smiles and tears and grieving for what we all wish could go on forever. But remember, the congregation will close but the Word of God that has been alive and active through Vang Lutheran Church DOES go on forever! Don't doubt it for a moment! god's peace to each one of you as you move through this time. Please call either one of us if we can help in any way. We look forward to seeing you on May 28th.
