JOB DESCRIPTION
First Lutheran Church

POSITION: Contemporary Worship Sound Technician

Supervisor: Director of Contemporary Music

Position Purpose: To provide technical assistance to First Light Contemporary Worship Team in the area of sound reinforcement.

Responsibilities: Subject to review and adjustment in conjunction with the Worship, Music & Arts Committee, Director of Contemporary Music, and Senior Pastor, the following constitute the major responsibilities of the Contemporary Worship Sound Technician:

1. Attend Sunday morning Contemporary Worship services (45 minutes) in order to operate and monitor the sound system.

2. Assist in planning and operating the sound system for special occasions when the contemporary worship team is utilized.

3. Rehearse with First Light, instrumentalists or vocalists as needed to provide sound reinforcement for Contemporary Worship. One evening rehearsal per week and warm-up prior to worship is typical.

4. Utilize special capabilities of the sound system in ways which enhance the music of contemporary worship.

5. Arrange for a qualified replacement/substitute on those Sundays when absence will occur and inform Director of Contemporary Worship of absences at least three weeks in advance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. High commitment to individual practice, group rehearsals, and Sunday worship service sound reinforcement.

2. Regular communication with the Director of Contemporary Worship and worship planning team.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Background experience in running at least 24-channel sound board.

2. Must be able to balance vocal sound (i.e., soprano, alto, tenor, bass) with instrumentation consisting of, but not limited to, acoustic guitar, electric trap set, and bass guitar.

3. Understanding of and commitment to contemporary worship.

4. Ability to work well with colleagues and congregation members.

5. Musical background, knowledge, and experience is desirable.
