Director of Worship and Music Ministries

Introductory Statement:

Trinity Lutheran Church seeks to engage all people in meaningful and grace-oriented worship. The Director of Worship and Music Ministries will be the lead staff person in ensuring quality worship and music.

Qualifications:

The Director of Worship and Music Ministries must see this position as a ministry to and with the people of God known as Trinity Lutheran Church. Commitment comes from an understanding of God's love for us and God's desire for us to communicate in worship and music the Good News of Jesus Christ. A willingness to grow in faith and in this position as the worship life of Trinity evolves is a requirement.

Specific experience will include a Bachelor's degree in Music with an emphasis in organ and conducting or demonstrated experience in both. Significant experience in accompanying worship and coordinating music groups is required. The candidate must be able to work well with all staff, volunteers and musicians of all abilities to further our music ministries.

Description of Responsibilities

The Director of Worship and Music Ministries will:

1. Have primary responsibility for the planning, organization, execution and evaluation of Trinity's total worship and music ministries, so as to provide quality worship and a complete Christian music ministry of excellence, involvement, and inspiration for the entire church year. This will include planning for contemporary worship and cooperative effort in music selection with the Director of Harmony in Spirit.

2. Plan worship and music for all regular, seasonal, festival and summer non-Sunday worship services in cooperation with the pastoral staff, attending staff meetings and leading worship planning sessions.

3. Provide primary staff leadership to the Worship and Music Committee, Altar Guild, ushers, etc.) and work with other committees and organizations of Trinity in the development of a total worship and music ministry.

4. Provide organ leadership to worship services, accompaniment of the Senior Choir and other choirs as requested by music staff.

5. Provide leadership and coordination of all other music staff and meet regularly with them to schedule musical groups, set goals and encourage growth.

6. Recruit and coordinate summer music, guest musicians and musical groups for worship in cooperation with the Worship and Music Committee and pastoral staff.

7. Seek to develop with the Altar Guild, artists and others a visual ministry of worship through seasonal decorations, permanent arts and physical objects that will enhance our understanding of God's creativity and beauty.

8. Administer the business affairs of the worship and music ministry of Trinity including the developing of music budgets, overseeing expenditures, and projecting capital music purchases as well as the maintenance and care of all music supplies, equipment and instruments.

9. Direct the Children's Choir and other groups as needed to further the musical education in Trinity's Children's Ministries.

10. Seek to expand worship and music opportunities for the congregation as mutually agreed upon with staff, Worship and Music Committee and congregational Council.

Accountability:

The Director of Worship and Music Ministries will be responsible to the Administrative Pastor. Opportunity for review and goal setting will take place periodically.

Work Relationships:

The Director of Worship and Music Ministries will:

1. .Emphasize and be a part of the team spirit with the staff of Trinity Lutheran Church and recognize the importance and role of each staff member in the total ministry of the congregation.
2. Foster a spirit of joy and loyalty with fellow staff members and musicians.
3. Work cooperatively with the Worship and Music Committee to further the varied worship offerings of Trinity and explore and implement additional worship experiences and opportunities.
