Director of Congregational Ministries

Job Description

Introductory Statement

Trinity Lutheran Church seeks a person to join our ministry leadership team and share the spirit of engaging all people in sharing their God-given gifts for ministry in ways which are meaningful and enriching to faith and daily life. The Director of Equipping Ministries will be the lead staff person in coordinating, furthering, equipping and encouraging people in a comprehensive gifts ministry system. The goal of this endeavor will be to foster spiritual growth in people through the discovery, development and exercising of their God-given gifts in service to others, the congregation and community.

Qualifications

The Director of Equipping Ministries must see this position as a ministry to and with the people of God known as Trinity Lutheran Church. Commitment comes from an understanding of Godís love for us and Godís desire for us to make the Good News of Jesus Christ come alive in tangible ways in each person. Specific experience will include a Bachelorís degree with demonstrated experience in leading, recruiting and energizing people to carry out responsibilities. A willingness to grow in faith and in this position as the ministry system of Trinity evolves is a requirement.

Characteristics

The Director of Equipping Ministries will possess an excellence in administration, communication and training people for the purpose of aligning peopleís gifts and passions for ministry with Godís call to love and serve our neighbor. The Director must be:

1) Strongly committed to Jesus Christ and the church

2) Outgoing

3) Able to motivate adults

4) Excellent in communication skills, including computer skills

5) Flexible, with an ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

6) Able to work well with staff, volunteers and adults of all ages

Description of Responsibilities

The Director of Equipping Ministries will:

1) Share a commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ and the priesthood of all believers

2) Utilize prayer as the key to ministry

3) Develop a system of identifying peopleís gifts for ministry

4) Develop and train a leadership team to administer to a wide-range of adults a gift inventory and follow-up with one-on-one interviews

5) Upon completion of gift discernment and affirmation, direct and encourage adults to engage in appropriating their gifts for ministry within and beyond the congregation

6) Where necessary, see to the training and equipping of adults to carry out their ministries

7) Coordinate learning opportunities for adults in cooperation with pastoral staff

Accountability

The Director of Equipping Ministries will work cooperatively and receive support from the Administrative Pastor who will uphold you in prayer. Furthermore the Administrative Pastor will strive to assist you in reaching your full potential as you grow in faith and contribute to Trinityís goals for adult ministry. Other pastors and ministry directors pledge their support and will work cooperatively with you. Opportunity for review and goal setting will take place periodically.

Work Relationships

The Director of Equipping Ministries shall:

1) emphasize and value the fostering of a team-spirit among the staff of Trinity Lutheran Church and recognize the importance and role of each staff member in the life and ministry of the congregation

2) be a mentor, companion, resource, and role model for the people of Trinity

3) foster and strive to grow a spirit of Christian community specifically with and between adults of the congregation

4) work cooperatively with other ministry directors and appropriate committees and auxiliaries to educate and keep adults informed about ministry possibilities
