JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Harmony and Praise Handbell Choir Director
Supervision: The director is under the direct supervision of the Minister of Music.
Position Purpose: To direct Harmony and Praise Handbell Choir for the purpose of giving praise and honor to God in the public worship of First Lutheran Church.
Responsibilities: Subject to review and adjustment in conjunction with the Worship, Music and Arts Committee, Minister of Music, and Senior Pastor, the following constitute the major responsibilities of the Director:
1. To select, purchase and conduct music which reflects high quality for liturgical worship.
2. To recruit and train handbell members and rehearse weekly throughout the school year (September through May).
3. To play during the worship of First Lutheran Church as scheduled with the Minister of Music.
4. To encourage and promote the creative use of handbells during worship.
5. To establish an enthusiastic, positive environment which enhances the ministry of music at First Lutheran Church.
6. To work in cooperation with other members of the staff of First Lutheran.
7. To properly care for music and handbells of the church.
Working Conditions:
Weekly rehearsals at a time scheduled to best accommodate the schedules of all
Sunday morning conducting as scheduled with the Minister of Music.
Select and purchase music within budgetary guidelines.
Yearly performance review to be done with the Minister of Music.
Qualifications:
Experience in directing handbells required
Good people skills; cooperative and outgoing, enthusiastic and energetic
Organizational skills for planning and purchasing music utilizing limited funds
Committed Christian dedicated to offering praise and glory to God through music
