JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Cherub Choir Director (age 4 through Grade 2)

Position Purpose: The Cherub Choir Director is responsible for the planning, rehearsal, and conducting music for age 4 through Grade 2 for the purpose of providing a positive music experience in the worship life of First Lutheran Church.

Supervision: The Cherub Choir Director is under the direct supervision of the Director of Choral Music.

Responsibilities: Subject to review and adjustment in conjunction with the Congregation Council, the Director of Choral Music, and the Senior Pastor, the following constitute the major responsibilities of the Cherub Choir Director:

1. To select, purchase and conduct music which reflects content consistent with a Lutheran understanding of the Christian faith.
2. To recruit choir members and rehearse weekly throughout the school year (September through May).
3. To sing during the worship of First Lutheran Church as scheduled with the Director of Choral Music.
4. To provide vocal training, appreciation for the role of music in the worship of the church, and growth in faith.
5. To establish an enthusiastic, positive environment which reflects the joy and energy of giving praise to God.
6. To work in cooperation with other members of the staff of First Lutheran.
7. To consistently encourage children to participate in choir and fully inform parents of scheduling and programmatic matters.
8. To properly care for music, robes, and instruments of the church.

Working Conditions:

Weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday morning conducting as scheduled with the Director of Choral Music.
Select and purchase music within budgetary constraints.
