Director of Young Children's Music Ministry
Job Description

Introductory Statement:

Trinity Lutheran Church is committed to a comprehensive music ministry with children. Music is a mode of teaching and transmitting the joy of the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Goal of Children's Music Program:

The goal of Trinity's Children's Music Ministry is to offer weekly opportunities for faith development and enrichment through worship, developing vocal and instrumental musical talent and appreciation. To achieve this we will provide an after school music program for pre-Kindergarten through Grade three students on a weekly basis.

The Director will have primary responsibility to develop a high-quality, spirited, inviting music ministry for young children within and outside the congregation. Significant support and assistance will be available from the Children's Ministry Director, pastoral staff, Noah's Ark Preschool Director, Worship and Music Committee and Church Council. It is expected that the Director will work to develop and foster excellent relations and involvement by parents of children participating in the Young Children's Music Ministry.

Qualifications:

The Director must see this position as a ministry to and with the people of Trinity. Commitment comes from an understanding of God's love for us and God's desire for us to communicate in all our efforts the Good News of Jesus Christ. A willingness to grow in faith and in this position as the Young Children's Music Ministry at Trinity evolves is a requirement.

Specific experience will include demonstrated musical ability, preferably basic keyboard proficiency and directing abilities. The Director must understand the nuances of working with a large group of young children and possess the spirit and demeanor to create an inviting, loving, celebratory, directed environment for our goals to be achieved. The Director must be able to work well with other music staff to develop an exciting, engaging music ministry for young children.

Description of Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

1. Work with the Children's Ministry Director and pastors to develop a dynamic, inviting weekly young children's music ministry which will teach and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to all young children.

2. Attend regular planning and development meetings with other music staff and pastoral staff representative.

3. Recruit and develop a large group of children ages Pre-kindergarten (one year before kindergarten) to third grade who will gather weekly for music teaching and development as well as fellowship.

4. Direct children in presenting musical offerings in Sunday worship and special services on a regular basis.

5. Work with other music staff and children's ministry personnel to achieve intergenerational music opportunities for young children. This may include, but is not limited to an Advent/Christmas music program, mass choir anthems and other opportunities as directed.

6. Choose, rehearse and present an annual children's musical for the community. This may be done in cooperation with other music staff and ensembles.

Accountability:

The Director of Young Children's Music Ministry will be responsible to the pastoral representative to the Worship and Music Committee and the Children's Ministry Director. Opportunity for evaluation will take place each spring with an evaluation interview conducted by the Personnel Committee.

Work Relationships:

The Director of Young Children's Music Ministry will:

1. Emphasize and be part of the team spirit with Trinity Lutheran Church staff and recognize the importance and role of each staff member in the total ministry of the congregation.
2. Foster a spirit of joy and loyalty with fellow staff members.
3. Work closely with the Children's Ministry Director in developing a dynamic,
inviting weekly music ministry opportunity for young children.
4. Work closely with the pastoral representative to the Worship and Music Committee in presenting spiritually engaging music in congregational worship.
