Chapter 1.

Communion Participation

B1.01. Participation in Holy Communion shall be open to confirmed members of this congregation and to those not yet confirmed, beginning with the fifth grade following appropriate instructions, upon recommendation of the pastor(s), and to individual members of other congregations who accept the Lutheran teaching in regard to Holy Communion as set forth in B1.02.

B1.02. Holy Communion requires sincere repentance, faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and an earnest desire to amend one's sinful life, as well as acceptance of the scriptural teaching of the real presence of Christ with his body and blood in the Sacrament. Such registration forms or oral announcements shall be used as will make prospective participants aware of these requirements.

B1.03. Record of participation in Holy Communion shall be maintained. If a member of another congregation communes, notice will be sent to that individual's pastor.

Chapter 1

Communion Participation

B1.01. Holy Communion is the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, given with bread and wine, instituted by Christ himself for us to eat and drink. (1)

B1.02. "Admission to the Sacrament is by invitation of the Lord, presented through the church to those who are baptized" (2). The educational ministry of the church will provide learning opportunities for the baptized child and parent(s). These opportunities will teach that the crucified and risen Christ is present, giving his true body and blood as food and drink, and that we receive forgiveness of sins, life and salvation.

B1.03. Records of participation at the Lord's Supper are to be maintained in accordance with the guidelines of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
